Over the several years of installing Vaillant and Worcester boilers, we thought we’d share our experience comparing these two popular brands. Vaillant vs Worscester is a common question that we get asked often from our customers, both offer great warranties and excellent support, but in our experience as boiler installers based in West London, covering boiler installation across several boroughs, one tends to edge ahead in certain areas.
In this article, as leading boiler and plumbing experts we’ll list the differences between these two boilers and what we recommend when it comes to installing your new boiler.
Note: While this is our experience, it doesn’t mean if you find another boiler suitable for you, you shouldn’t go ahead with it.
Vaillant Boilers
What we like about Vaillant Boilers
1. Excellent customer support
In our experience, Vaillant provides excellent technical and customer support. When an engineer needs information about a boiler, fault code such as F22 error code or replacement part, getting the correct information is normally straightforward. If your boiler is under the warranty, they usually inspect it on the same day or within the same week. We always believe in a great customer support, hence we tend to see customers preferring Vaillant the most.
2. Good modulation and energy control
Modern Vaillant boilers can adjust the size of the flame depending on how much heat the property needs. Instead of constantly running at maximum power, the boiler can reduce its output when less heat is required.
This feature exists now across all modern boilers, but from our experience Vaillant tends to perform it slightly better this is why we have listed it under Vaillant.
3. Vaillant boilers have excellent life time.
We can easily say, Vaillant boilers last a long time. Every single component of Vaillant boilers is manufactured to a high standard.
What we highly recommend is having your boiler serviced annually, even if the warranty period is over. This will keep the boiler last a longer time and less cost in repair.
4. Easier to service and repair
When it comes to repairing Vaillant boilers, we find it slightly easier to repair than other brands specially Worcester. This is because the internal engineering layout of components make it easier for gas engineers to access or replace.
Better access can also reduce the amount of time needed for certain repairs.
5. Spare parts are widely available
Vaillant boiler spare parts tend to be widely available from suppliers such as Screwfix and other heating merchants across London. This makes Vaillant boiler repairs more convenient, as our engineers can often source common replacement parts quickly.
From our experience, there have been many occasions when a Vaillant boiler needed a replacement part and we were able to purchase it and have it delivered on the same day.
This is particularly helpful during the winter months, when the number of boiler repairs increases
What we don’t like about Vaillant
Vaillant boilers can sometimes be sensitive to changes within the heating system or gas supply.
For example, a temporary change in gas pressure or another operating condition may cause the boiler to display a fault code and stop working.
This does not necessarily mean there is a major problem with the boiler. However, the fault still needs to be properly diagnosed rather than simply resetting the boiler repeatedly.
Case study
Vaillant boiler installation in Kensington
Problem: Landlord who lived in a 2 bedroom flat on Kensington Church Street, had a 15 years old gas boiler. After inspecting, we recommended a Vaillant ecoTEC plus 832 combi boiler.
Result: Homeowner reported a steady warm water and radiators through out the winter. We have as-well included the extended warranty for their Vaillant, that means 10 years of warranty.
Worcester Bosch Boilers
What we like about Worcester Bosh boilers
Reliable boilers as Vaillant
From our experience, Worcester boilers can be just as reliable as Vaillant when they have been installed correctly and maintained properly.
Across West London, Worcester is one of the most common boiler brands we come across, particularly when carrying out boiler installations and repairs in Kensington and Notting Hill. Vaillant however, leads in the number of boilers installed.
What we don’t like about Worcester boilers
Repairs can sometimes take longer
Some Worcester boilers have a more restricted internal layout compared to Vaillant boilers.
This makes accessing the component slightly more difficult, making the repair more difficult and time consuming. Over the past year or two Worcester has improved this in the newer models.
We always recommend speaking with a gas boiler expert before purchasing your new boiler, as knowing which internal layout is easier to repair takes trade experience.
Condensate traps can become blocked
We have attended Worcester boilers where the condensate trap has become blocked with debris. We likely see this happening more often in Worcester boilers compared to Vaillant.
It is not a blocking reason to stop from purchasing a Worcester boiler but it’s an issue we tend to see often in Worcester.
A blocked condensate system can cause operational problems, and should be repaired.
Case study
Worcester boiler installation in Notting Hill
Problem: A landlord who owned two properties in Ladbroke grove, was looking for a boiler that offered a decent price, a good warranty and reliable performance. Both properties had boilers older than 5 years, with one having missed its service for 2 years. We recommended the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 4000 gas combi boiler, priced at roughly £1,200.
Result: The landlord was extremely happy with the outcome. The Greenstar 4000 is a reliable boiler for a medium sized home, and given the owner had two flats rented out, it was the right fit in terms of both price and reliability.
Vaillant vs Worcester: Which One Would We Choose?
Both brands make good boilers, and we repair and service both regularly as part of our Annual boiler service in London , covering Kensington, Notting Hill, Hampstead, Hammersmith, Battersea and Knightsbridge
From our point of view, we usually find Vaillant boilers easier to fix. Parts are easy to find, the inside layout is simpler to work with, and common repairs are usually quicker.
Worcester Bosch boilers are still reliable, but some repairs take longer because certain parts are harder to reach and some models are designed differently.
In the end, always speak with a qualified gas engineer, or contact our boiler installation London team for a consultation.
